THE "MISSING"Tens of thousands of those who died as a result of war have no known grave. This could be because their last resting place can no longer be identified as land was fought over many times, or because they were never found. There are many thousands of men who could not be identified but who are buried in appropriately marked graves. Links are to the website of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and supply information about the memorials and, sometimes, access to photos. Links open in a new window and I am not responsible for the content. All of those with no known grave are commemorated on a memorial to the missing. Men of Cullompton are remembered on the following memorials:
BELGIUM Messines Ridge (NZ) Memorial
Tyne Cot Memorial
Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial
FRANCE Arras Memorial
Pozieres Memorial, Somme
Soissons Memorial, Aisne
Thiepval Memorial, Somme
UNITED KINGDOM Lee on Solent Memorial, Hampshire
Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon
Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Hampshire |
